4 things no one told you about Machel

Meet Machel Evans! He currently holds the title of Senior Graphic Artist at Dunlop Corbin Communications. An employee at Dunlop for almost 6 years, Machel has proven to be a master of his
art and has earned the adoration of his peers.  A man with refined tastes and a simple lifestyle, he
spends most of his free time engaging in his favorite past times;  para-sailing and chilling on Jamaica’s
beloved airport road. In true Jamaican spirit, he is a football fan with Barcelona being his favorite team
and FIFA being his go-to video game. Get to know 4 things about Machel and his process to get those
creative juices flowing.

DCC: How did you get into this field, was this always your passion?

Machel: No it wasn’t. Originally, I wanted to become an architect, but I didn’t get accepted by UTECH
and my dad suggested graphic designing since I was good at drawing. So, I applied to Edna and
studied there.

This wasn’t always my passion because I still want to become an architect but seeing my work in
public areas and the exposure it has garnered has provided me with a level of appreciation for
the art and my work as well as gaining freedom in editing my work however I please as my
ability to do so was limited in school.

DCC: What are some of your favourite brands/online editorials/blogs to draw inspiration from?

Machel: My main website would be ‘Behance’ and ‘Video Copilot’; they feature international works
including works for some of the largest clients around the world. It aids in inspiring me and
Video Copilot teaches you how to edit and animate videos.

DCC: Tell us a little about your process when creating new artwork/designs for clients.

Machel: Doing a brainstorm gets my ‘creative juices’ flowing. It’s called ‘mind mapping’ in graphic design terms. Even though it might be labeled as ‘old school’ by some this is what gives me some
modern and fresh ideas.

I’ll get the coolest idea/concepts from my mind mapping and this is always my first step in designing… then off to Google LOL.

DCC:  What has been your favourite project/campaign working at DCC?

Machel: My favourite work so far is the Heineken ‘Inspire’ campaign; the name was later changed. Inspire was made to feature various art forms and because they didn’t really have a visual concept to go with this was very intriguing. That allowed for me to have creative freedom in producing the
work and I was able to be present at its launch and take part in enjoying my work.
